PROYDE offers its social bases and society in general, the possibility of integrating into its Volunteer programs in its social headquarters (Local Volunteer) and in its Development Programs or Projects in countries of the South (International Volunteering).
See the sections: Volunteering in PROYDE and International Volunteering
Short-term International Volunteering
PROYDE understands as International Short-Term Volunteering the one that takes place for a period of between 1 and 3 months, generally in the European summer. It is carried out by groups that coexist and are formed before leaving for the place of action, are received by a Host Community and are integrated into a Program or Development Project already underway of which they are part for a few weeks.
International Summer Volunteer1
International Summer Volunteering, is a Short-Term International Volunteer Program that PROYDE offers to adults, especially from their environment (Local Volunteers, Partners, supporters, etc.), to approach any of the Projects of Development that they support in impoverished countries. This approach is based on a specific work to be done during the stay in a Community of the South Welcome and at their request.
This volunteering accommodates the participants' temporary availability, although under normal conditions 2 is carried out in the months of July and August and for a period of between 4 and 6 weeks.
Objectives of the International Summer Volunteering
Know first hand, on the part of the Volunteers, the work that PROYDE carries out and that of the Community with which this collaboration relationship is established. In other words, the Volunteers will put face and name to the Development Cooperation in which PROYDE participates.
Become part of the place to which they are sent. For PROYDE, the concrete work that can be carried out is only to achieve this objective.
Requirements to participate in the International Summer Volunteer
In addition to the General Requirements to participate in PROYDE Volunteering (See: Volunteering in PROYDE) and those listed in the section Conditions necessary to be an International Volunteer, the following are added:
Be at least 21 years of age when traveling to the project site.
Formally submit in writing your request to PROYDE, according to the procedures and the terms that they establish. As usual, the request is made in a specific form for the Summer Volunteer between the months of September and December of the year prior to the year of participation. There can also be an interview with the Local and / or Territorial Delegate of PROYDE.
Have adequate time available to participate in any of the established groups.
Agree to collaborate economically with PROYDE, as established in the Volunteer Incorporation Agreement.
Be committed, with the rest of the group, to develop and meet the "Group Project."
Participate in all the training sessions established by PROYDE 3 . This training is essential and is part of the selection process of each volunteer.
Conditions in which you participate in the International Summer Volunteering
The Summer Volunteer Program is organized around the requests or confirmation of continuity of Projects arrived at PROYDE between September and December the year before the summer in which the Project will be carried out.
PROYDE will organize the volunteer groups with the selected ones. In the formation of the groups issues such as language of the country of reception, activity to be carried out, complementarity in the composition of the groups, previous experiences in International Volunteering, etc. will be addressed. All the groups are assigned to a Group Coordinator who will exercise functions of animation and coordination of the Group; It is also the one who coordinates, according to PROYDE, with the Host Community, during the preparation and while the Summer Project is being carried out.
In the country of destination, the volunteers will be received by a Host Community (normally a Community of La Salle Brothers) that is responsible for the Group. Usually, the Volunteers reside in the Brothers' house and participate in the activities of the Community.
The Summer Volunteers assume the Mission, Vision and Values of PROYDE, as well as the Codes of Conduct with which they have committed themselves, especially regarding Photos and Information about the Third World 4 . Likewise, it accepts and respects the norms and customs of the Host Community.
For PROYDE, International Volunteering in general and Summer Volunteering in particular, are its visible face in the places where they go and in this sense they acquire a particularly important responsibility.
PROYDE will send, in sufficient time, to the Host Community the names of the participants as well as a brief summary of each one, the "Project of the Group" and any other document that it considers important so that there is prior knowledge of Volunteers
PROYDE will provide the Volunteers with all the necessary information about the person Responsible for the Host Community and the Community itself: addresses, telephone numbers, emails, etc. to maintain a fluid but discreet relationship with those who will receive the Volunteer Group.
PROYDE contracts travel insurance for volunteers, which includes common contingencies during their stay. This insurance is nominal and will take a copy and the protocols of action and contact in Spain with the insurance company. In any incident, they will also notify PROYDE.
The Summer Volunteers take their trips back and forth to the country they travel to, paid and closed. When this is required by the country to which they are traveling, they will keep their visas in order and for the entire time of their stay. The Host Community ensures any other administrative procedure necessary for the country, such as Letter of Invitation, Confirmation or Extension of Visas, procedures with the local immigration authorities, etc. Likewise, during the stay, they will provide the volunteers, if necessary, assistance in case of loss or theft of documents, contact with the Spanish Consular Authorities, airlines, etc.
The expenses not covered with the contribution of the Volunteers, is PROYDE who completes them with their own economic resources so that the project to be carried out, the stay and other trips of the Volunteers are attended.
Summer Volunteer Training
For PROYDE, the formation of Volunteering is an essential part of its action and not only because it is one of the obligations set out in the aforementioned Volunteer Law.
As regards Summer Volunteering, two complementary training courses are established. OnLine training through the Virtual Classroom in which all the PROYDE Summer Volunteers participate and a face-to-face training that each Territorial Delegation of PROYDE programs and coordinates.
Training is coordinated by the Director, the Head of the PROYDE Volunteer Department and the Territorial Delegations by the Volunteer Responsible.
OnLine Training through the Virtual Classroom
The OnLine course includes the following topics: PROYDE, institutional framework; Models of solidarity; Code of Ethics of the Cooperator; Option for the poor; Live in community; Go, be and return; Millennium Development Goals (MDGs); Globalization and Development; Education in the Promotion and Development of impoverished countries; Woman and Development.
This training includes evaluation questionnaires, practical exercises, and exchanges between them and with experienced International Volunteers through chats and forums.
Training in the Face-to-Face Meetings of the Territorial Delegations
These face-to-face training meetings aim to become known as a group and prepare the "Group Project"; prepare in common the tasks they will perform at the place of destination and the individual tasks, if any; reflect on some of the contents of the OnLine Course and prepare to act with common criteria as a Group and as envoys for PROYDE.
Volunteers from previous summers tend to attend these meetings to guide those who will participate immediately. This participation, in addition to providing security to the Volunteers and advising on practical issues, is part of the necessary continuity in the commitments of PROYDE and the Community that hosts Volunteer Groups for an agreed period of time 5 .
